DRYWALL COMPOSTING

ABOUT

For construction projects needing to meet LEED requirements, LEED-like standards, or just want to divert materials from the landfill — we offer 20-yard containers for separated drywall aka gypsum board, wallboard, or sheetrock. We extract the gypsum which provides beneficial calcium and sulfur to soil blends that are spread throughout our community while reducing your project’s carbon output.

LEARN

For construction projects seeking to meet LEED requirements, adhere to LEED-like standards, or simply prioritize sustainable practices by diverting materials from the landfill, our comprehensive service offers an ideal solution. We provide specialized 20-yard containers designed specifically for separated drywall, also known as gypsum board, wallboard, or sheetrock.

By opting for our dedicated drywall recycling containers, construction projects contribute significantly to environmental conservation and resource recovery. The recycling process we employ involves the careful extraction of gypsum from the drywall materials. Gypsum is a valuable mineral that contains beneficial components like calcium and sulfur.

Upon extraction, the gypsum is processed and transformed into soil blends with enhanced nutrient properties. These enriched soil blends are then spread throughout our community, benefiting various landscaping and agricultural projects. The addition of gypsum to the soil enhances its structure, improves water retention capabilities, and facilitates nutrient absorption by plants, ultimately leading to healthier vegetation and greener landscapes.

One of the key advantages of our drywall recycling service is its positive impact on carbon emissions. By diverting drywall from traditional landfill disposal, construction projects actively reduce their carbon output. When drywall materials decompose in landfills, they release harmful greenhouse gases like methane, which significantly contributes to climate change. However, with our recycling process, these emissions are significantly minimized, making your project more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

The incorporation of gypsum-rich soil blends into community landscaping and agricultural projects offers a cyclical approach to waste management. By closing the loop and recycling drywall materials, the community benefits from enhanced soil health, reduced waste, and decreased reliance on non-renewable resources.

Moreover, participation in our drywall recycling program aligns perfectly with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) requirements. LEED is a globally recognized green building certification program that encourages environmentally responsible practices in construction and design. By choosing our service, construction projects can earn valuable LEED credits for their commitment to sustainable waste management and resource utilization.

WHY DO IT?

Environmentally Sustainable - Construction materials dumped into landfills take years to decompose, can create methane gas, and produce toxic sludge that can pollute groundwater. Click here to learn more about the benefits of recycling & composting drywall.

Reduce Cost - Construction materials that are simply hauled to the landfill weigh a lot and haulers are charged by the ton. Instead, for materials that can be composted, we charge flat rates.

LEED - Part of LEED Certification is the recycling of construction materials. Lumber, concrete, and drywall are all dense and heavy materials and add up quickly to reduce landfill tonnage. We provide weight & delivery slips that give you proof of composting and we can help prepare documentation for LEED certification credits.

Convenience - With a downtown Omaha location, we can quickly turn around any job or provide a drop-off site for various materials you can scan here. Our Sustainability Consultants will work within your project needs and provide low disruption and fit your budget.

WHERE DOES IT GO?

In partnership with Soil Dynamics, we have the Omaha Metro Area’s only commercial composting facility with drop-off points in Downtown Omaha or Ashland, Nebraska. We compost everything from yard/tree waste and manure to food waste from schools and drywall from construction sites before putting it back out into our community’s gardens, farms, and landscapes. The Downtown Omaha Yard offers dumping as well as mulch, topsoil, and compost.

For other construction waste needs, our roll-offs come in 20, 30, and 40-yard sizes, and are also available for general landfill and recycling needs.
