Taking Earth Day Omaha to Zero Waste
For the first time in Earth Day Omaha's history, we the capacity to make the event go Zero Waste! But if we're going to do it, we need everyone's help.
Read on to understand what Zero Waste is, how we got here, and how you can help ...
WHAT'S ZERO WASTE?
It means treating trash like a resource by reducing, reusing, recycling or composting our waste. If 90% or more of today’s waste accomplishes this by diverting from incineration or the landfill, we’ll achieve Zero Waste.
HOW WE GOT HERE
Collaboration! Hillside Solution and Earth Day Omaha have been facilitating conversations to bring a collaborative partnership together. First Star Fiber is handling the recyclables and EnergyBag material. Hillside Solutions is collecting compostable items. Larsen Supply Company is providing all food vendors with compostable serviceware. And lastly: Earth Day volunteers will be helping attendees put their waste in the correct waste totes.
This combination gives us everything we need to go Zero Waste. The final step is YOU!
HOW YOU CAN HELP
When you're ready to throw something away, find a Refuse Station and consult a volunteer on where your waste goes, or reference the guide posted below.
