ABOUT
To promote sustainability and responsible waste management, the City of Omaha has taken significant steps to promote glass recycling. While glass recycling drop-off centers are available throughout the community, they are intended for residential use only.
But, that leaves out businesses and commercial organizations from participating in the recycling loop. So that’s where Hillside comes in …
Our curbside glass pickup program offers a hassle-free solution for businesses to dispose of their glass waste responsibly. Instead of sending glass materials to landfills, which decreases the lifespan of our landfill and buries a resource, businesses can now participate in our program and have their glass collected on a regularly scheduled basis.
One of the key advantages of this program is its emphasis on keeping the recycling process regional. Just like the City of Omaha’s glass recycling collection sites, glass collected in our program is sent to Ripple Glass in Kansas City.
According to their website, “Your glass containers help our partners make fiberglass insulation, high-performance countertops, and flooring, and of course, Boulevard beer bottles, to name just a few.”
By doing so, participating businesses strengthen a circular economy.
Glass is a valuable resource that, when recycled and repurposed, can find new life in various applications. These reuse projects not only reduce the demand for raw materials but also conserve energy and resources, making our community’s recycling efforts even more impactful.
